Training courses announcement
The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) - Harare / Zimbabwe
plans to offer the following courses in 1997/98 for biomedical research and
support staff in Africa:
1. Health Care Management Development Programme
Target: Top level managers and administrators in public and private health
sectors -(note this is a two part programme)
Dates: Part 1: 16-22 February 1997
Part 2: To be advised
Course Fees: US$ 5,313 per person
2. Research Methodology Training Course for Disease Control Managers
Target: Public Health Physicians, Environmental Health Officers, District
Community Nurses, Research Officers
Dates: 10 - 20 March 1997
Course fees :US$ 2,900 per person
3. Data Handling, Biostatistics and Use of ?EpiInfo 6?
Target: Research Officers, Epidemiologists, Public Health Officers, M Phil/
Dates: 28 April - 23 May 1997
Course fees: US$ 4,897 per person
4. Data Handling, Biostatistics and Use of ?SPSS for Windows?
Target: Research Officers, Epidemiologists, Public Health Officers, M
Dates: 15 September - 10 October 1997
Course fees: US$ 4,987 per person
5. International Malacology Workshop
Target: Research Scientists, Environmental Health Officers, Schistosoma
Dates: 22-26 September 1997
Workshop fee: to be advised
For these courses, which are directed at staff in the SADC region, the fees
include air fare, transportation to and from the airport, accommodation in
Harare, registration and all course materials. Per diem and transit
accommodation may be provided where essential.
Courses 2-5 are presented in collaboration with The Danish Bilharziasis
Laboratory , Copenhagen, Denmark.
Course 1 is presented in collaboration with the Provider Support Unit,
There are a limited number of scholarships available from the course
organisers and these will be awarded on a first come first served basis to
applicants who meet the course entry criteria. Participants are also
encouraged to seek sponsorship from their employers, donor agencies and
6. Interpretation and Quality Control of Laboratory Diagnosis of Infectious
Target: Clinicians, Veterinarians, Microbiologists, Laboratory Staff
Dates: 26 May - 6 June 1997
Course Fees: US$ 1,000 per person
7. African International Course in Serological Diagnostic Techniques
Target: Clinicians, Veterinarians, Research Officers, Laboratory Staff
Dates : February / March 1998 - normally a 5-6 weeks course
Course Fees: US 4,500 per person
For these courses participants are also required to fund their own air fare
and accommodation costs. The BRTI does not provide scholarships for these
courses and participants are encouraged to approach their employers and
donor agencies for assistance. Sponsorship in the past has been provided by
W.H.O., UNICEF, I.E.A.E. and the European Union.
