Mass Immunisation Campaigns (4)
-------------------------------

During the first stage of implementation of PHC programs, pre-
registration of children followed by the organisation for mass immu-
nisation is an excellent first activity for new Community Health
Workers (CHWs). The CHWs get to know their communities and learn or-
ganisation skills. Later, the immunisation activities become a normal
part of PHC activities. This strategy was very successfully used in
Somalia in both the refugee and the mainstream communities in the
1980s.
