RFI: Malaria Prophylaxis in Africa

I'm travelling to Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Morocco for 
16 days next Friday the 12th. I've been told to take "Lariam" as to 
prevent malaria. This drug has a weird effect on me and I'm wondering 
if there's another alternative as effective I could consider during my 
trip.
