Dear colleagues,

'The Applied Nutrition Programme' of the University of Nairobi, Kenya,
in collaboration with the School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts
University, Medford, Massachusetts, USA and Sustainable Approaches to
Nutrition in Africa (SANA) Project, Academy for Educational Development
(AED), Wahsington DC, wish to announce a short course on Monitoring and
Evaluation of Nutrition Programmes for English speaking Africa. The
course objectives will be:

1. Provide participants with an overview of monitoring and evaluation
(M&E).

2. Train participants in the specific skills needed to design and im-
plement monitoring and evaluation systems for nutrition-related pro-
grammes.

3. Develop relevant tools and materials to enable participants to im-
plement monitoring and evaluation systems within existing pro-
grammes.

Facilitation techniques that encourage participation will be used
throughout the course. Group discussions, brainstorming, role playing
and case studies will be used to facilitate the understanding of a
topic while exercises for each topic will allow participants to apply
newly- learned knowledge and skills to practical situations. Throughout
the course, participants will apply new information to develop specific
tools for the implementation and utilisation of a monitoring plan and
evaluation system.

This course is intended for middle-level nutrition programme managers
as well as monitoring and evaluation programme officers in various nu-
trition-related projects in the East, Central, and Southern Africa re-
gion. Participants will be selected by the organising institutions in
accordance with their professional qualifications and work experience.

Course Cost:
Accommodation: US$ 1,000 (This will cover accommodation at half board
rates (for a maximum of 16 days) and is inclusive of government taxes,
2 special dinners, and course materials). The cost for accommodation
should be paid directly to the course organisers.

Travel (airfare): Personal arrangement.

Course venue:
The course will take place at Diani, Mombasa, Kenya. April is a wet
month and Mombasa is often hot and humid. Therefore participants are
advised to bring appropriate clothing.
