The catalogue covers Medicine, Community health, AIDS education and
communication, Tuberculosis, Child Health, Nutrition and Child
Growth, Health Care Services, Management, Education and Communica-
tion, Disability and Leprosy, Appropriate technology. Some publica-
tions in the 'Strategies for Hope Series' are available in both
French and English. A few are available in Portuguese or Swahili.
All these books are very low cost and specially chosen to suit Afri-
can needs.
UPDATE IN ANAESTHESIA
This journal is specifically for those practising anaesthesia in de-
veloping countries. It is practical and covers a range of issues. It
is sponsored by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthetists
and it is understand that it is free of charge to developing coun-
tries. Distribution is through:

INTERNATIONAL HEALTH MATTERS
This is a digest of information about research funded by the UK's De-
partment for International Development. It is published twice a year
and covers a range of subjects concerned with public health e.g. ma-
laria. It also gives short summaries of recently completed research.

EFFECTIVENESS UPDATE
These publications are also supported by the UK Department for Inter-
national Development through the 'Effective Health Care in Developing
Countries Project' at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. They
are a series of A4 sheets which summarises the evidence for good
practice using the relevant systematic reviews from the Cochrane Li-
brary. A useful feature is a 'box' with "Key Points" - information
that could be included in a Health Information Digest or other publi-
cation for distribution to outlying areas.
