Call for Applications to Global Health Leadership Officer Programme
-------------------------------------------------------------------
With the support of the UN Foundation, the US Centers for Disease Con-
trol and Prevention and the European Programme for Intervention Epide-
miology Training, WHO is establishing a Global Health Leadership Offi-
cer Programme which is designed to provide young professionals with two
years of supervised work experience and training aimed at strengthening
the practical skills and knowledge that are essential for leadership
roles in public health at the national, international and global lev-
els.
WHO invites applications for an initial class of six (6) persons. After
participating in an introductory training course beginning in mid-
September 1999, Officers will be matched to WHO activities where they
will work with a mentor for the remainder of the two (2) years. During
the training period there will also be several other short courses and
a regular schedule of seminars. The Officers will work together on some
projects and be encouraged to develop a high esprit de corps. The first
class will have work assignments in WHO/HQ, duty station Geneva, Swit-
zerland. As experience with the Programme develops, however, Officers
in subsequent classes may be assigned to Regional or Country Offices or
to other organisations engaged in health development work.
