Training Programme in Fertility and Reproductive Health
-------------------------------------------------------
(in French)
July 19 to August 20, 1999
Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium
I am pleased to inform you that our Institute will from July 19 to
August 20 1999, organise a new Training Programme in Fertility and
Reproductive Health in collaboration with the Institut de Formation
et de Recherche Demographiques (IFORD) in Yaounde and the Centre
francais sur la Population et le Developpement (CEPED) in Paris.
This Programme has been developed taking account of one of the objec-
tives of the International Conference in Cairo on Population and De-
velopment in 1994, i.e. to train planners and professionals working
in the field of reproductive health and ensure a better heightening
of decision-makers awareness. This training, in French and geared to-
wards developing countries, should answer the increasing need of
these countries resulting from the numerous programmes being set up
in this field.
Training in data analysis and processing relative to this field, as
well as the use of relevant data bases and computer programmes, con-
stitutes one of the main axes of the Programme. Another axis consid-
ers the socio-economic and cultural context in which programmes in
reproductive health are developed. Gender problems and the role of
various institutional and political instances in the running of these
programmes will also be considered.
The main goal of this Programme being developed by the Institute of
Demography of the University of Louvain in collaboration with IFORD
and CEPED, is to train technical personnel and professionals capable
of identifying the social and political implications of their work,
and able to bridge the gap with decision-makers. The training staff
will be composed of experts from the three partners institutions as
well as others who are well known for their experience in the man-
agement and evaluation of programmes dealing with reproductive
health. The list of topics, which will be taught is presented in the
booklet which will be sent to everybody who is interested.
With best regards,
Prof. Dominique Tabutin
