CAFS Training Courses 1999
--------------------------
The Centre for African Family Studies (CAFS) is an African insti-
tution dedicated to strengthening the capabilities of sub-Saharan
African organisations working in family planning and related re-
productive health services.
CAFS conducts regional and in-country courses that enable health
care providers, administrators, researchers and programme manag-
ers to meet Africa's health challenges. The CAFS team reflects
strong field experience and a profound knowledge of the African
social and cultural environment.
CAFS has been serving Africa for over 20 years and has developed
training methodologies that assist participants in developing
plans and expertise they can use immediately.
Training Methodology
The CAFS training approach is flexible and incorporates a variety
of training methods. These range from formal lectures or tutori-
als to seminars and workshops, or to more informal on-the-job ap-
prenticeships and mentoring programmes.
Formal training is tempered with group discussion and practical
field-work for a well-balanced approach.
CAFS' tailor-made programmes allow the user not only to select
course content, but to choose between formal and informal ap-
proaches to training and to set parameters such as duration, se-
lection and use of materials, participant skills level and train-
ing environment.
