RFI: Polio vaccinations in Angola
---------------------------------

On or about May 4, 1999, Lara Pawson reported for Reuters that WHO
planned an emergency polio vaccination drive in Angola the next week.
Pawson said a vaccination program would be conducted on May 9-10 with
three, two-day inoculation drives in July, August and September.

Can anyone tell me with authority that the May vaccination program was
conducted as Pawson indicated it would be? Can anyone provide me any
background information on how it went, or if it did not occur, why not,
and comment as well on the inoculation plan for the rest of the year. I
would also be grateful to learn what the current stats are on the out-
break of polio in Luanda.

I edit an internet site named NCN Central Africa Watch and we have been
watching this, but all of a sudden, have seen no amplifying information
since early May, and could find no current updates at the WHO site.
Thanks.
