African Forum on the Role of Traditional Medicine ...(2)
Dr. O.M.J. Kasilo,
I compliment WHO-AFRO for considering this important, and yet much
neglected area of health service. In fact, it is a surprising coinci-
dence to find out that your organization has identified this issue at
a time when myself and Karl Schwartz, USAID/Ethiopia's program offi-
cer, have been discussing on this topic. I have developed an opera-
tional proposal and this was reviewed and accepted by USAID Acting
Director, David Eckerson, and Program Officer, Karl Schwartz.
Currently, we plan to discuss this point with our Ethiopian govern-
ment partners. Thus, your planned workshop is an opportunity to bet-
ter learn on advocacy issues and on the implementation issues.
Traditional medicine is widely practiced, least supported and yet an
invaluable part to the health services system in Ethiopia. I would be
very happy to provide a summary of the status of "Traditional Medi-
cine in Ethiopia: Threats and Opportunities" if you feel would be of
help to the conference. I also would like to get the formal invita-
tion to attend the conference.
Thank you for taking this initiative.
