New Training Course on Reproductive Health Financing

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) is proud to announce a new training
course on Reproductive Health Finance to be held in Research Triangle
Park, North Carolina, from 23 October through 17 November 2000.

This four-week intensive course will cover key issues facing profes-
sionals charged with designing, evaluating, or managing reproductive
health programs. The course will address a variety of topics in this
field, including planning, costing, budgeting, financing, and advo-
cating to ensure a program's success. Special emphasis will be placed
upon family planning, safe motherhood, and maternal health.

The course will be led by top reproductive health and heath finance
professionals from RTI and its collaborating institutions: The Fu-
tures Group International, The Carolina Population Center of the Uni-
versity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Family Health Interna-
tional.

The course is open to individuals working in health care with respon-
sibility for setting program priorities and budgets within developing
countries. Participants must have a relevant background in economics
or finance, have basic Windows computing and spreadsheet skills, and
be working with reproductive or maternal health issues. All class in-
struction and training materials will be provided in English.

This course will give participants the knowledge and tools to:

1) Design and plan the financing of a reproductive health program
2) Project the costs and benefits of a reproductive health program
3) Develop a budget and set program priorities
4) Secure financing from international donors, central government,
regional governments, communities, and the private sector
5) Develop and implement advocacy activities to enhance support for
reproductive health programs

5) Cost-Benefit Analysis

10) Planning, Budgeting, and Priority-Setting

The course will be held on the 180-acre campus of the Research Trian-
gle Institute in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Attendees
will reside at the comfortable Hawthorn Suites, a few minutes' drive
from RTI. Transportation will be provided between the hotel and RTI.
Optional weekend retreats will be available to the nearby beaches and
mountains.
