RFI: Unusual case of migratory parasites - roundworm, flatworms
---------------------------------------------------------------

Would be grateful to have information where in North America could an
adult individual from Africa get diagnosed and hopefully get treated
for roundworm(s) which has/have migrated to the head/brain. Person
had several stool and blood examinations at different intervals (over
years) and no indication of parasites. The individual has always com-
plained of movement around esophageal and throat area. On one occa-
sion, endoscopy had been done and irritation of the lining found but
no parasite was observed. The individual also used to spit fresh
blood coming from the throat (not bleeding gums).

Has always had rashes on the neck and back of elbow which disappeared
on application of corticosteroid ointments. Presently, complains of
sensation of movement on the head, intense pressure on head and eyes;
sensation of cold water running down the legs, back and behind re-
gions, numbness of the lips. Family doctor has now requested an MRI
and referred patient to a neurologist but appointments for these take
more than months. The individual suspects it is a migratory parasite
possibly Ascaris lumbricoides because 15+ years back in Africa, stool
test showed ova of Ascaris lumbricoides - took Antihelminthic drug
known as "Ketrax". No parasites were passed out but individual felt
worms coming towards throat and head. - Stomach lavage was done at
that time. During that time, family members evidenced lump (lime
sized) on neck where individual said felt movement.

Individual is active but current symptoms are worrisome and has
started affecting work.
