International Students Conference on HIV/AIDS
10th - 13th December
"HIV/AIDS AND THE YOUTH: the greatest challenge of the new millenium"
An International HIV/AIDS conference with a difference! Organised by
University youths at one of Africa's premier Universities, Makerere
University, Kampala, Uganda, for university students in Africa and
HIV/AIDS in Uganda and the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa strikes mainly
the youth and young adults who are the main stay of the family, pil-
lars of society, the very heart of the workforce and the leaders of
Bringing together the youth to share experiences regarding the impact
of HIV/AIDS on them and society, discussing community activities that
enhance the spread of HIV, and evaluating current measures of preven-
tion, control and treatment, are the main aims of the conference. Ul-
timately this will increase students and societal awareness and sen-
sitivity to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and thus provide a leap forward in
HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
Uganda is excellently suited to hold this conference, since it has
been ravaged by HIV/AIDS and is now showing signs of recovery, demon-
strated by the falling prevalence of HIV infection. There is there-
fore a need to share strategies used in Uganda and elswhere, with the

higher learning, allied health professionals and all interested peo-
