AFRO-NETS FAQ is sent to the AFRO-NETS conference to assist subscrib-
ers who have questions or who wish to learn more about the conference 
procedures. If you have suggestions for additional questions to this 
document, please send to the moderators:

1. THE BASICS

For assistance or help, DO NOT send e-mail to the AFRO-NETS posting 
address: <afro-nets@usa.healthnet.org>. E-mail sent to this address 
is read by the scientific moderators. They work very hard to insure 
that you receive content that is both accurate and informative. They 
do not administer the operation of the conference.

Be sure to address any technical problems or questions to <owner-
afro-nets@usa.healthnet.org>. If you forget this address, it is re-
peated at the bottom of each AFRO-NETS message.

Please do not press the 'reply' button if you apply for training 
courses or request documents, CD-ROM etc. from the author of a mes-
sage. Your reply will go to the AFRO-NETS moderators and he/she might 
just send it to the trash because forwarding the message to the 
original author needs extra time and efforts.


2. HELP! MY ATTEMPTS TO UNSUBSCRIBE ARE NOT WORKING. WHAT SHOULD I
   DO?

If you want to unsubscribe from AFRO-NETS send a message to:

      <majordomo@usa.healthnet.org>
leave the 'Subject' line empty and in the body of the message type:
      unsubscribe afro-nets <your e-mail address>
      end
OR
      unsubscribe afro-nets-digest <your e-mail address>
      end

as applicable.


3. I SUDDENLY DON'T GET ANY MORE MESSAGES FROM AFRO-NETS

If your account or site rejects e-mail from the AFRO-NETS conference 
for several days, your address is being removed from the conference 
list. Otherwise, for the approximately five messages we average each 
day, we might receive upwards of 300 error return messages a day. In 
case you have *not* unsubscribed but don't receive AFRO-NETS for more 
than five days, please contact either 
<owner-afro-nets@usa.healthnet.org> or <neuvians@harare.iafrica.com>
and ask for re-subscription.


4. I AM GOING ON HOLIDAY. CAN I TEMPORARILY SUSPEND MY SUBSCRIPTION?

No, the conference software does not include a 'vacation' feature. 
Send an e-mail to <majordomo@usa.healthnet.org> and unsubscribe from 
the conference. Most mailer programs will allow you to set up auto-
matic filters to store your AFRO-NETS messages in a special area dur-
ing your absence. Please be careful about generating auto-reply or 
'vacation' messages to the conference. If we receive these messages, 
we have to remove you from the conference. Otherwise we might end up 
sorting out up to twenty automatic responses for each message sent 
out.

After coming back you can subscribe again by sending an e-mail to:

      <majordomo@usa.healthnet.org>
leave the 'Subject' line empty and in the body of the message type:
      subscribe afro-nets <your e-mail address>
      end


5. I HAVEN'T SAVED OLD AFRO-NETS MESSAGES - ARE THEY STILL AVAILABLE?

Yes. All messages to AFRO-NETS are archived at the HealthNet server. 
Direct your browser either to:
<http://www.healthnet.org/programs/afronets.html>
or to:
<http://users.harare.iafrica.com/~gtz-hsr/afronets.htm>
and search the "AFRO-NETS Hypermail Archives" for the requested in-
formation.


6. MAILBOX OVERFLOWING? SWITCH TO THE AFRO-NETS DIGEST!

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the volume of AFRO-NETS posts, but 
want to be sure you don't miss anything, try our digest. This is a 
compilation of the unabridged posts, adding up to about 50kB each.

If you like the idea of switching to the digest, send the following 
message to <majordomo@usa.healthnet.org>:

        subscribe afro-nets-digest <your e-mail address>
        end
