Research Fellow Position Available - Harvard Burden of Disease Unit

The Burden of Disease Unit (BDU), at the Harvard Center for Popula-
tion and Development Studies, is seeking a full-time Research Fellow 
to contribute to a study of the burden of disease and injury caused 
by major risk factors in the United States. The study is innovative 
in that it is based on comparative risk assessment and will develop 
appropriate estimates of the joint effects of different risk factors 
and the full effect of proximal risk factors. 

Comparative Risk Assessment (CRA) can be defined as a systematic ap-
proach to estimating the global burden of disease and injury due to 
major risk factors. This work is an integral component of ongoing 
collaborative efforts between the BDU, the Centers for Disease Con-
trol and Prevention, and the World Health Organization to develop new 
estimates of the Global Burden of Disease 2000. The overall aims of 
CRA 2000 are "to obtain reliable and comparable estimates of attrib-
utable burden of disease and injury, which form the basis of a vari-
ety of policy-relevant measures of avoidable burden for 20 selected 
risk factors".

The Burden of Disease Unit is located in Cambridge, MA and provides 
research leadership in developing, testing and implementing tools for 
expanding the evidence base for health policy.

Qualifications: 
PhD in epidemiology, or MD, MPH with advanced training in quantita-
tive methods. Applicants should have superior analytical skills and 
strong organizational and writing skills.
