The interest in the CDs has been astounding. We are having a second
batch of 1,000 printed. Many people have reported giving the Super-
course to others to put onto their PCs. We have from 1 to 1,000 cop-
ies of each made. It is fascinating to see this go around the world.

Last week Tom Songer and I (REL) tried something new in our class in
Chronic Disease Epidemiology. I presented the wonderful lecture pro-
vided by Vint Cerf. For those not in the area of the Internet, Vint
is truly the father of the Internet. He developed the initial proto-
cols for the Internet to send packets of information from Machine to
Machine, and he developed the systems that the different mainframe
machines could understand each other. Perhaps of greatest importance
is that he got everyone in the world to take on the standards, at a
time when companies, and in fact countries wanted to use their own.
After presenting Vint's lecture for an hour, he graciously answered
questions from our students over the telephone. He very nicely cor-
rected all my errors! The students were thrilled to talk with Vint
Cerf. It also proved to be a very powerful way to have students learn
and be motivated by the Supercourse. In the future, please consider
the possibility of having the original developer of the lecture as a
guest speaker, either in person over the telephone, or via questions.

We are now thinking about novel ways to use the Supercourse. Please
write to us with your experiences.
