Conference: Information Collaboration in a Global Context

From March 26-28, 2001 the Association for Population/Family Planning
Libraries International (APLIC-I) will hold its 34th annual confer-
ence at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC. The conference theme
is "Not a One-Way Street: Information Collaboration in a Global Con-

On Monday, March 26th attendees are invited to a special tour of the
National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. The visit will include
an update on PubMed, including any expected changes in POPLINE; a
demonstration of the NLM Gateway, a report on NLM's efforts in dis-
tance learning; and a demo of <clinicaltrials.gov>.

The conference itself begins on Tuesday, March 27th. Speakers include
Susan Pasquariella of POPIN, Nancy Hafkin, formerly of the United Na-
tions Economic Commission for Africa, Leela McCullough of SatelLife,
Kurt Moses - Vice President and Director of Computer and Systems Ser-
vices at the Academy for Education Development, Carl Haub - the Con-
rad Taeuber Chair of Population Information at Population Reference
Bureau and Elizabeth Robinson, Associate Director for Information
Programs at Family Health International.

The conference will include breakout sessions on strategies for mar-
keting your library, measuring the impact of information, support and
interaction with your regional offices, the APLIC Union List, the
APLIC web site and specific tools that are used by population li-

On Tuesday evening APLIC will host a banquet at Ristorante Murali on
the corner of 9th and I Street (http://www.muralidc.com). The cost of
the dinner is included in the conference fee. Please join us for this
fun event.

Registration Fees:
Pre-conference APLIC-I member: US$ 140 (US$ 150 at conference);
non-member: US$ 165 (includes 1 year APLIC-I membership) (US$ 175 at
conference). Includes breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday and Tuesday
evening banquet.
