Food for donor's thoughts (2)
The Tamil Poet Subramania Bharathi said that "the world will stand
destroyed if a single man has no food". This is the basis of think-
ing. Human beings have a right to dignity; at the same time "some are
more equal than others" and because of better opportunities, abili-
ties, or even sheer luck, have more. These persons or organisations
want to give - and herein is the rub. If they could re-orient the
thinking to "share" the recipients who are less fortunate could re-
ceive without loss of dignity.
If on the other hand, they receive - as in supplicant - they inevita-
bly lose dignity, and soon will transit to a level of thinking that
says "they have, so they give".
The essential generosity and good will are made a mockery of, and
those who receive tend eventually to take it as their right.
There is no commitment to contribute.
A true donor will inculcate in the recipient the will to CONTRIBUTE.
Only then can there be true equity in the world.
My two cents worth.
