I must make it clear that I was never answered and of course I do 
share Jeremy's opinion that today's HIS is far different from the 
past. The little knowledge I have is that HIS includes the origi-
nal/traditional medical records and information technology. This in 
itself complicates matters when it comes to defining systems within 
the HIS.

In Botswana, the establishment of HIS units was started in the early 
eighties (even though the HIS dates back to start of medicine). There 
were a lot of studies by then which were never approved by the Minis-
try of Health.

My situation is, we need an HIS policy (even though I would opt for 
an act or law), which will further define HIS standards. I thought 
there were countries out there with those kind of policies and stan-
dards. For comparison or mainly knowledge sake, I would like to re-
quest those documents so that when I propose to our ministry, at 
least I have got samples of HIS documents.

One should understand my situation; I am a Medical Records Officer 
with computer training and therefore the need to understand what is 
involved within the HIS. Of course, I have researched and may be I 
can as well boast that I have earned a lot by myself.

I therefore wish that responses should directed to the need or re-
quest. The Kenyan company had nothing to offer (i.e. through the web 
site).
