Dear FriendS:

Toronto Congress of Epidemiology 2001

Supercourse Meeting:
Date and Time: Friday, June 15, 2001, 7:30-9:30
Place: Crown Room, Westin Hotel

John Last, father of preventive medicine has agreed to speak with us
concerning his perspectives of Preventive Medicine and Telecommunica-
tion. John has been one of most important supporters of the Super-
course. He included the term "Information Superhighway" and "Inter-
net" in the Dictionary of Epidemiology before anyone in epidemiology
started using these terms. He will also soon have a beautiful Super-
course lecture.

Utilization of the Supercourse:

We want to promote the utilization of the Supercourse. We would value
your input as to how we can now bring the Supercourse into the class-
room worldwide.

Faina and Benjamin suggested an excellent idea. One problem espe-
cially in developing countries is not only the lack of access to the
Internet, but also, lack of computers that can run CDs. Therefore the
Supercourse CD is not of value as it could not be used. They sug-
gested that we could develop a mini course with 6-7 lectures and send
this out in an email attachment where it can be copied on a floppy
disc and widely distributed.

We thought that the first mini course would be a description of the
Internet and the Supercourse. If you were to teach on the Inter-
net/Supercourse who would you want to help you to prepare a lecture?
You now can present a lecture with the help of Vint Cerf, the father
of the Internet. We in epidemiology most certainly need Vint's help.
In this mini-series we will have a lecture from Vint plus 6 other
lectures. With this material it will be easy to present to your
school on the Internet/Supercourse.

We encourage you and your friends to give at least one lecture next
year on the Supercourse and/or the Internet. You will see how much
time it saves you to develop a beautiful lecture. This is also a step
to show your students and faculty how easy it is to prepare and pre-
sent a lecture using the Supercourse.

We are also creating a "teacher's guide" that shows step by step as
to how you can use the lectures off the web, CD and floppy. We guide
you through the development of a lecture that can be used in any
classroom in the world.

We would very much appreciate your help. We would like to distribute
these lectures to a few of you for input before we go into widespread
dissemination. Please send us a note at <ronlaporte@aol.com> if you
would be willing to give us comments. (This would take only about 15
minutes).

Once again, it would be fantastic if you would present a lecture on
the Internet/Supercourse to your faculty, students or employees next
year.

See you all in Toronto. Don't forget your music, junk food and drink!

If you would like to receive a new edition of the Supercourse CD con-
taining over 300 lectures, please send a request with your complete
mailing address:

Best Regards on the first warm day of the year in Pittsburgh.
