The Conference Program
The First Announcement has been out since August 2000, and the first
deadline for proposals and submission of abstracts is Dec. 30 this
year. The chosen motto of WW2002 is "Gendered Worlds: Gains and Chal-
lenges".
The following sub-themes have been proposed:
- Gender Identities/Constructions of Gender
- Gender and patriarchy: an African perspective
- Gender and Leisure/sports
- Feminist leadership
- Linking theory and practice
- Gendering the economy
- Fem-Gendered Poverty
- Gendering Health/HIV/AIDS
- Women in Science and Technology
- Engendering Politics and Governance
- Feminist and Grassroots Activism World-Wide
- Gendering the Workplace/Women and Work
- The Girl Child
- Women and environment/agriculture
- Women, Culture and Creativity
- Gender and the Law/violence against women
- Women and disabilities
- Portrayal of women in language and literature
- Institutional mechanisms for the advancement of women
- Women and refugees/migrants
- African Voices, African visions
However, according to the organizers "more suggestions are still so-
licited to ensure that the most pertinent gender issues of the new
millennium are addressed." So please don't hesitate to contact the
conference organizers with any other ideas or proposals that you
might have.
