RFI: Hospital Alliances
-----------------------
Dear colleagues,
I am a health economist at the Department of Health Economics in Bei-
jing Centers for Public Health. I am working on a research project of
hospital alliances (group, trust or merger interchangeably). In re-
cent two or three years, hospital alliances began to emerge in China.
Generally and usually, several hospitals merge together to share re-
sources and establish referral systems in the network. In this net-
work, there is usually a relatively large hospital, which is in the
dominant position. It often output management and technicians to the
other hospitals, which are relatively small. In China, there are dif-
ferent opinions towards this development direction. Some experts re-
gard this phenomenon as monopoly in service delivery market. Others
think it useful to save resources and promote economic scale.
I hope to learn about the international experiences in this field.
Does anyone have some evidences or literatures about the hospital al-
liances development? Suggestions and comments are also welcome. I
hope to collaborate with foreign experts on this topic.
Thanks in advance!
Wishes!
Yours,
Haichao Lei Ph.D.
