Global Health Rap CD
--------------------
Dear Friends,
http://www.pitt.edu/~super1/
You too can have the best of Global Health Rap. This CD is NOT avail-
able in stores, and is offered here exclusively by the Supercourse
for a limited time only. This CD represents 326 tracks of the best
research this century in Global Health. This special RAP (research
and prevention) CD could be offered for $49.99, and it would sell
thousands. For $29.99, millions would be sold. But here, for one
time, this spectacular CD is sold for $0.0. With this unbelievable
price amazingly a second wonderful gift is included, Stats-O-Matic.
Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night, and pound your head
because you could not recall the definition of confounding? We will
give to you FOR FREE, in partnership with the BMJ Stats-O-Matic,
which dices and slices through even the most difficult statistical
data. The Stats-O-Matic was formerly called Statistics at Square 1
and available for the Supercourse by the BMJ. Now at 3:00 in the
morning you will never have a problem finding out how to do an odds
ratios.
Certainly you question as to how we can give the Global Health Rap CD
away for free. Are we crazy? How can we do it? All we ask of you is
that you give the CD away to 5 people you know, and libraries, and
they give it to 5 other people. You can merely copy the contents on
their hard drives. Yes, this is a pyramid scheme, but if we are suc-
cessful if everyone starts September 1 to distribute the CDs to 5
others, and then they distribute to 5 others on the 2nd, then on Sep-
tember 6 , we will have enough CDs for everyone in Bulgaria. By Sep-
tember 10, everyone in the world will have the best of prevention CD.
All it takes is a little of your time.
Only kidding of course, but we have in fact created the best and
largest number of lectures on Rap (research and prevention). Why
shouldn't we distribute it world wide to everyone involved in health?
There is no other CD like this, so, please hurry and distribute this
to your friends...of course...for a limited time offer.
This initial mailing and dissemination has been highly successful, at
least 50,000 people will have the Supercourse. Although difficult to
determine, the numbers may be much greater as Pedro Urra indicated
that all health practitioners in Cuba have access. Adriel Olortegui
from Peru plans to have this distributed through the Ministry of
Health. Massod Masood indicated that it will be distributed to all
Chairs of Community Medicine in Pakistan. At least 50 centers
throughout China have access with Yang Ze and others distributing the
GHN rap CD. Several people have already distributed the CD to 100-400
students. It is likely that the number of people who have the Super-
course will be in the 100,000 range. We think with your help we can
even move into the "gold-record" range in the Rap category with a
million people having access to our Supercourse. Wouldn't that be
wonderful; a Global Health Rap CD competing with Elvis?
Thanks so much. The CD distribution has been an amazing success, and
a lot of fun. We need to include a real Global Health Network Rap
Song. The Supercourse faculty is brilliant, but sadly we have not
found good Rap singers in the Supercourse faculty, but we will keep
looking.
NIH Grant:
We are preparing an NIH grant, and need your help. One concern raised
by several faculty is that the Supercourse is not sufficiently inter-
active. As part of the grant we want to develop a system to train
students as to how to analyze data. For example, we have had consid-
erable experience in the epidemiology of Type I diabetes. We would
put up a lecture describing the epidemiology of Type I diabetes, and
then we would include the data from our Registry along with simple
SPSS or EPI Info interfaces to practice data analyses. Here people
will be able to analyze real registry data, as well as having the
background information as to how the study evolved.
We would very much like to find others who have data sets that could
be included in the Supercourse so that students could learn how to
analyze these data. Please send me a note (ronlaporte@aol.com) if you
would be interested in sharing your data with the students of the
world, to teach them how to analyzed data.
We would like to talk with people concerning other aspects of the
grant. The deadline is Oct. 1, 2001.
Button, Button....
Since the last newsletter, the Lancet has agree in principle to pro-
vide buttons from their articles to the Supercourse lectures. In ad-
dition, the International Journal of Epidemiology will also. Dr.
Lindberg from the National Library of Medicine suggested that the
Medline web page link to the Supercourse as well. We see that the di-
rect link between the articles and the lectures for epidemiology and
public health will have an enormous effect on health.
This has been a very warm summer in Pittsburgh. Jan (my wife) and I
are vacationing on our porch, watching the wild turkeys, deer and
bunnies. We plan to remodel our kitchen that represents our vacation
money until we retire! So you will need to visit us, rather than us
coming to you.
Thanks so much, isn't it remarkable what a bunch of prevention and
internet folk world wide can do!! We can not only do research, but
also develop Global Rap.
Best Regards from Pittsburgh. US Football is getting ready to go.
Let's go Pittsburgh Steelers!! Rap on, our friends, Rap on...
