1. ITN-Oriade Initiative-Nigeria-a project for the community-
based management of simple malaria and promotion of the use of insec-
ticide treated materials. The Initiative incorporates applied re-
search, home-based management of simple malaria, strengthening of re-
ferral systems for malaria control, education on the use of insecti-
cide treated materials and community engagement in all processes. All
activities are community owned through programmes of co-financing,
co-management and local monitoring for impact assessment / evalua-
tion with technical assistance provided to the community and the lo-
cal government by the Center for Health Sciences Training, Research &
Development (CHESTRAD).

2. Women's Justice Center / Centro de Justicia Para Mujeres-Cali-
fornia, USA - provides advocacy, free of charge, for victims of rape,
domestic violence, and child abuse, particularly in the Latina and
other under served communities of Sonoma County. Also provides advo-
cacy training and community education and co-ordinates the Task
Force on Women in Policing with the goal of increasing the number of
women and minorities in law enforcement agencies. Their bilingual
website has over 70 English/Spanish documents on rape, domestic vio-
lence, and child abuse. They are producing a series of 10 booklets on
violence against women. Free copies are available.

3. Bong County Community Capacity Assessment Process-Liberia-the
CCA process in Bong County is a pilot project, drawing upon the input
of its beneficiaries to assess and analyse challenges in the ill-
nesses affecting their children. Facilitators, representing each of
the participating communities, have been trained in health princi-
ples. They interact with participants, answering health questions,
guiding discussions and identifying pertinent developments and find-
ings. Facilitators bring their findings to UNICEF and this informa-
tion has informed several publications to be shared with other commu-
nities, organisations and with the public.

4. Mongolian Development Center (MDC)-Mongolia-a non-profit NGO
working to empower individuals and institutions through education and
training. MDC develops early childhood character development curric-
ula to be used in schools across the country. In 1995, they organised
the National NGO Conference in the Rights of the Child, which was
followed by a series of educational and promotional initiatives tar-
geted at teachers, administrators and parents. Community development
projects include nutrition initiatives for low income families, gar-
dening projects, and economic development (social enterprise) train-
ing - all incorporating community participation.

5. OneWorld Radio Southeast Europe (SEE)-Eastern Europe-an
internet based audio exchange in Southeast Europe. OneWorld Radio SEE
aims to be the place on the world wide web where radio stations from
the region can exchange programmes at no cost on issues of human
rights, civil society, democracy and sustainable development. This is
a multi-lingual initiative, launched with 4 languages-Albanian, Ma-
cedonian, Serbian & English - with Croatian, Bosnian, Slovenian, Hun-
garian, Roma, Greek, Bulgarian, Turkish & Romanian to be added in the
coming months.

6. Beyond Awareness Campaign-South Africa-ran from Nov 1998 to
Oct 2000 and was conducted by a consortium of 4 organisations: AIDS
Media Research Project, DramAidE, Lindsay Smithers FCB and Wireless
Additive. Focus was to provide and promote access to communications
tools and resources that could be used in support of HIV/AIDS pre-
vention, care and support activities and initiatives at the local
level. They held an AIDS Helpline and AIDS write-in service and pro-
vided key messages through advertising and free educational materials
through the AIDS Action Office.

7. World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)-Global
- has launched a campaign on the prevention of early adolescent preg-
nancy, focusing on young women under the age of 15. There are over 10
million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 140 countries. Girl
Guides/Scouts in many countries have run awareness campaigns and com-
munity projects on sexual and reproductive health issues including
adolescent pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.

Television Trust for the Environment, TVE-London, requires a re-
gional consultant with sound knowledge of media, information and com-
munication technologies in Latin America and the Caribbean-includ-
ing experience in environmental communication-to produce a study in
several countries in the region; to develop social and environmental
measurement and impact indicators for sustainable development ini-
tiatives, as well as the production of feedback documents for project
multipliers. Job will be within the framework of an existing pro-
ject. Consultant to present 6 monthly reports to TVE and carry out
periodic evaluations and revisions of the project. Essential: full
knowledge & use of Spanish (written & spoken). Knowledge of English &

8. The Eastern & Southern Africa Counselling Association (ECASA)
will hold a workshop in Kenya Sept 7-8 2001 with the objective of
Standardising Counselling Curricula in the region. ESACA is bringing
people from 10 countries in the region to exchange curricula for
training counsellor and counsellor-supervisors to discuss similari-
ties and differences and determine criteria that should be in all
curricula.

tinez - 'Internet projects in Latin America and the Caribbean need to
