Announcement:-First National Congress on Quality Improvement in 
Health Care, Medical Research and Traditional Medicine

Background

The Ministry of Health in January 2001 established a functional De-
partment of Health Standards and Regulatory Services (DSRS) as pro-
vided for in the National Health Sector Strategic Plan. DSRS provides
leadership in Quality Improvement in Health Care, Medical Research,
Traditional Medicine, Health Laws Review and coordination of Regula-
tory Bodies.

OUTPUTS

DSRS plans to organize the First National Congress on Quality Im-
provement in Health Care, Medical Research and Traditional Medicine
with the following expected outputs:

*Consensus on assessment tools for Systematic Monitoring and Evalua-
  tion of Quality Improvement in Health Care
*Definition of National Priority Medical Research Agenda
*Consensus on Strategies for integration of Traditional Medicine
  with Conventional Medicine
*Health Sector Position paper for Constitutional Review Commission
  of Kenya


ABSTRACTS

1.Research abstracts (250 words) structured with the following head-
ings:

Objective: 
Precise statement of the study question or hypothesis

Design: 
Description of how you tested your hypotheses. Include type of study,
sample or data source, selection procedures, intervention or assess-
ment tools and methods of analyses.

Results: 
Description of what you found, with specific data. If appropriate,
numerical results should be accompanied by confidence intervals and
levels of statistical significance. Provide response rates for all
surveys.

Conclusion: 
Brief statement of what you conclude from the results, limiting gen-
eralization to the domain of your study sample or data source.

2.Non-research abstracts (250 words maximum). These could be his-
torical, ethical or descriptive reviews. Include a succinct summary
of the subject or problem, historical and current significance, pro-
posals or solutions and conclusions.
