RFI: Information on HIV-Saliva Tests (3)
----------------------------------------

As far as I know, OraSure is an approved test by the USFDA. The
WHO/UNAIDS web site has a good document out on HIV testing and talks
about various rapid tests "Guidelines for using HIV testing technolo-
gies in Surveillance: Selection, Evaluation and Implementation". You
can download the document at: http://www.who.int/emc/diseases/hiv/

There are also a number of good review articles on the sensitivity
and specificity of HIV saliva tests. They are:

Hodinka RL, Nagashunmugam T, Malamud D. Detection of Human Immunode-
ficiency Virus Antibodies in Oral Fluids. Clinical and Diagnostic
Laboratory Immunology, July 1998: 419-426.

Emmons W. Accuracy of Oral Specimen Testing for Human Immunodefi-
ciency Virus. American Journal of Medicine. 1997; 102(Suppl 4a): 15-
20.
