Ban on mini-skirts in schools (17)
----------------------------------
Dear all,
Mini-skirts and teenage girls is not a new problem. I did my school-
ing in Africa and then in India in the late 60s and 70s. Even during
those times I remember the topic of the length of the school skirt
was a topic of hot debate in both Africa and India, that too in
states like Bihar. We did not have the HIV/AIDS problem nor did any
of the girls from my school get pregnant. We grew out of mini-skirts
by the time we were freshers at college. Of course, every community
and schools within a community should be allowed to make choices on
what they think should be the dress code. However, one should remem-
ber that HIV/AIDS occurs in communities where women are covered from
top to bottom. Let teenage girls be teenage girls and educate them on
what it means to be a teenager especially a female teenager and about
the transition to womanhood and they will grow into responsible fine
women the community and school will be proud of.
