Supercourse Newsletter - October 16, 2001
-----------------------------------------
http://www.pitt.edu/~super1/
Dear Friends,
500 by Halloween:
We are rapidly closing in to Halloween. We need only 11 more lectures
and we will have an amazing 500 in the Supercourse. It is going to be
close. If you have a PowerPoint Lecture on Epidemiology, Global
Health or the Internet please send it to us, and we would love to
have you join.
CDs:
We are planning for the next CD distribution. This will be the best
CD ever, almost as good as the Beatles.
There will be 500 lectures available in this CD, cutting across many
areas of epidemiology. These will be easily used. We will have the
instructions for usage in the CDs.
In the next few weeks we will be sending to you an important message.
If we do not have an accurate address the CD will not reach you. We
will be asking you as to the best place we can send the CD for you to
receive it.
The CDs will be even more powerful as we will provide a complete set
of very simple instructions for not only including the CD on your PC,
but also your server. This will allow you to set up a mirrored
server. A mirrored server is very nice in that it is an exact copy of
the Supercourse. About every 2 months we update the CD so that you
have the latest lectures. In addition, we will place a counter on the
mirrored server so that you can see the number of visitors coming to
your site.
As with all the previous CDs, we would appreciate if you could dis-
tribute this to at least 5 of your colleagues, as well as to develop
a mirrored server for your center.
Leading Epidemiologists: We are planning something special for many
of you on the Supercourse list. It is a secret, and we will let you
know what it is in just a few weeks. You will like it, and it is
something that we want to do for you, and global epidemiology. We do
need, however, your help. We would appreciate if you could sent to us
the name and birth date of a famous epidemiologist/public health per-
son in your country. We plan to use this information to make some-
thing for you, and for all our colleagues.
16th meeting of the Japanese Association of Computer Science:
Dr. Suyama (Director General of the Association) and Dr. Hiroshima
(President of the Association) invited EunRyoung Sa for their annual
meeting held on October 29, in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Suyama visited
Pittsburgh this Spring and started to collaborate with us since then.
EunRyoung will be presenting "Open Source Model: Crossing Over the
Digital Divide."
You can locate the information about the meeting at:
