RFI: Tungiasis (aka, Jiggers, Chigoes or Pig Fleas) [2]
-------------------------------------------------------

Kim Baldwin Radford asks a wonderful and interesting set of questions
about Tunga penetrans.

The good news is that there's a recent review about Tunga:

Heukelbach J, de Oliveira FAS, Hesse G, Feldmeier H.:
Tungiasis: a neglected health problem of poor communities.
Tropical Medicine & International Health 6(4): 267-272 Apr. 2001.

The bad news is that according to this review, there no good answers
to any of your questions! It seems that there are promising candi-
dates for systemic treatment, but they have never been properly
evaluated. Decent research is badly needed on this and all the other
issues that you raise.
