Biology of Disease Vectors Course
---------------------------------

16-30 June 2002
Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

A unique course, Biology of Disease Vectors, is being offered at
Colorado State University Arthropod-borne and Infectious Disease
Laboratory from 16 to 30 June 2002.

The course is intended for scientists newly recruited into the field
from areas such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemis-
try, etc. and for those with more conventional training in vector-
borne diseases. Advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and
independent investigators are introduced to the biology of disease
vectors, emphasizing current molecular biological, genetic, biochemi-
cal, and physiological approaches. Each year a 2-day mini-symposium
is held on a topic of special interest in the middle of the course.
This year the mini-symposium at the Pingree Park Mountain Campus will
be on molecular biology of diapause.

Approximately 30 students and 25 faculty participate in the course.
Faculty members are from universities, government institutions, and
biotechnology companies from different countries around the world.
Students come from many different countries. Small class size and the
selection of world-renowned scientists for faculty provide an unpar-
alleled learning experience. The course is sponsored by the John D.
and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Tropical Disease Re-
search and Training Unit of the World Health Organization. Financial
aid may be provided based upon need. Previous applicants are encour-
aged to reapply.
