Dear Friends,

Supercourse Thanksgiving, Nov. 2001

Gobble, Gobble

"Thanksgiving is a circle of memories. Wishing you peace & plenty
this holiday."

We have much to be thankful for this year. We are proud to consider
you a friend and colleague. Building the Supercourse with you and our
faculty worldwide has changed our lives.

We are so pleased to collaborate with you and all faculty worldwide.
We think that this effort will help to improve global health by im-
proving prevention training. You have shared with us your wisdom,
time and vision; because of this, we all can improve prevention in
the world.

We now represent a team of 4700 scientists from 120 countries who
have banded together in a trusted prevention circle. The number has
tripled since last Thanksgiving. The crowning achievement was reach-
ing 500 lectures. This is equivalent to 40-50 books on public health.
This was accomplished with our collective wisdom, and our network of
friends and most of all, our faculties desire to improve global
health.

Thanksgiving: "Real abundance is found when we join hands with our
friends and share"

It is wonderful that our 500th lecture arrived right before Thanks-
giving. Thanksgiving is a holiday where we celebrate and express
gratitude to our family, and our friends. We are very grateful to be
able to work with you.

"Thanksgiving is a time for remembering the special people in our
lives"

You are a special person in our lives. We wanted to give you a gift
of Thanksgiving as without you and others we could have never created
a prevention Internet library. Our small present of gratitude to you
is a Supercourse Calendar that you can hang on your wall or use as
computer wallpaper. We will be sending this to you in the next week.
We chose a faculty member for each month who has been extremely sup-
portive, many of whom joined during the very early days when we had
less than 10 lectures. The faculty members are spread all across the
world. These people believed in the spirit of the Supercourse as did
you and stuck with us. If you do not receive it by Dec. 1, please
send us a note.

"Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness" (Shakespeare)

Each person selected a slide to represent their lecture and the Su-
percourse for their month. Also each described the importance of the
Supercourse from their perspective. Their thoughts are poetry and the
slides from their lectures are art.

We give this to you from our hearts, we only ask that the calendar is
a gift that is meant to be given. Please print it and hang it on your
wall or keep it on your computers. Also, please send the calendar to
at least 5 friends (especially students) so they can feel the friend-
ship and power of the Supercourse and to see what working together
globally can accomplish. Change the calendar if you would like, as it
is in the spirit of the Open Source Supercourse model. We hope to im-
prove this next year and would value your comments. Fan Zhou from our
group was the architect of the calendar.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest
appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them" (JF Kennedy)

We will also make this calendar available in the Supercourse web site
for you and others to download.

"To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take noth-
ing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind that will
stand behind the action" (Albert Schweitzer)

You are one of the people who stands behind the action, and we thank
you.

We have a wonderful global group of friends. It is a warm feeling
that we all are giving the world tools to prevent disease and improve
health. We are proud to work with you.

"Gratitude is the heart's memory" (French Proverb)

Happy Thanksgiving from your good friends in Pittsburgh and world
wide.
