Save children from HIV, but mothers?
------------------------------------
> 'Monumental' HIV/AIDS Study in Botswana Will Use Two-Pronged

- but what about the mothers?
I very much appreciate the efforts to improve - by all means - the
success of antiretroviral treatment to prevent Mother to Child Trans-
mission of HIV. The issue of research into a good infant breastfeed-
ing policy for HIV positive mothers is very important, too. But on
hearing the news from Botswana, I have to once again raise the issue:
are we leaving the mothers alone in this effort to save their chil-
dren? I am sure most mothers do want to live long enough to see their
children grow. And mothers' care is the best life insurance for new-
borns and toddlers. When will these new drug trials supply even moth-
ers with effective life preserving drugs? Is it ethical not to do
this? What are your opinions out there?
