The Communication Competencies Survey - Round 2

from Susan Zimicki - Co-Director - The CHANGE project
mailto:szimicki@aed.org

Communication Competencies: Call For Opinions (ROUND TWO)

Competencies: Communication for development/social change

The CHANGE Project, The Rockefeller Foundation and the Pan American
Health Organization (PAHO) are working to define a set of core compe-
tencies for practitioners of Communication for Development/Social
Change. This information will be used to define training/education
needs and guide other decision-making. The Communication Initiative
is supporting this process.

Earlier this year we invited your input to this process through par-
ticipation in a survey. We received 311 responses from people in 58
countries. It took some time to sort all the different responses into
common categories. We have now processed the information and identi-
fied the top twelve skills, areas of knowledge and values/attitudes
mentioned by those who responded to the first call for opinions.

Now we are asking you to give your opinion about the importance of
each of these skills, areas of knowledge and values/attitudes by as-
signing each category a rating, from 1 (not important at all) to 10
(extremely important).

We are asking you to complete this before the New Year. We will aver-
age the ratings assigned to each category and report the information
on the Communications Initiative site and at a meeting on competen-
cies that will be held in late January.
