Dear Friends,
CDs:
We are pleased to say that the CDs have been packed up, and sent out
to everyone who we had a valid address. All of our group helped to
make this possible. Special mention must be made of Eun Ryoung Sa who
developed this CD, and to Faina Linkov, who oversaw the packaging of
the CD. Faina did a wonderful job, and in fact asked her retired fa-
ther, Yuri, and his friend, Boris to assist. Faina, Eun Ryoung, Mita,
Fan, Beatriz, Grace, also put in considerable time and effort.
How, we have expectations for you. As we indicated, we expect that
you give the CDs to at least 5 people. You can have the CDs copied,
but many centers do not have CD "burners". An alternative is to just
lend the CDs to your students, friends, family, and colleague, and
have them copy the Supercourse onto their hard drive. In this manner,
there is not costly.
Please feel free to provide this to your Ministry of Health, or your
local health departments for copying. When there is public health
conference in your country, it is very effective to have the CDs cop-
ied for everyone who attends, and put the CDs in their packets.
GHNet-U:
We received wonderful comments concerning building of a Global Health
Network University. Several Universities are ready to move on this
now. Wow, that is quick!!! We have a great opportunity to develop
something completely unique, global training in public health. We
need to evolve this so that it is non-threatening, very prestigious,
and very inexpensive. Look out Harvard, Tokyo University, and Cam-
bridge, and the University of Pittsburgh the GHNet-U is starting to
rise up to train the world.
Calendars:
We were not sure if people were using calendars until a few days ago.
We got word of several people in public health that received the "I
love you" Supercourse Calendar 3-5 times (we really are not a vi-
rus...but have been called a "beneficial" worm as we try to bring
epidemiology into everyone's computer.)
Holidays:
Not matter what you faith, we wanted wish you a very happy holiday
season. With the CDs we bring to you and your country the gift of
prevention knowledge, produced by friendship. The Supercourse group
is one of the best presents we in Pittsburgh could have. We wish you
happy holidays, and we salute you as people willing to give up some
of their time to share their wisdom to improve the health locally to
globally.
Japan:
Akira was invited to Japan early December and gave presentations at
The University of Tokyo and Kyoto University on the Supercourse. Pro-
fessor Kaga, at the International Research Center for Medical Educa-
tion, The University of Tokyo, Japan, invited Akira to give a keynote
talk on the Overview of the Global Health Network Supercourse at the
First Forum on International Cooperation and Research on Medical Edu-
cation, "IT and International Cooperation on Medical Education" on
December 7. The center aims to make international contributions in
the field of medical education which includes public health and pre-
vention. The presentation of the Supercourse has impressed the par-
ticipants, especially in its global collaboration, and open source
concept (lecture sharing by professionals).
Dr. Chailerd Pichitpornchai, with Mahidol University, Thailand gave a
keynote talk on "IT and Medical Education in South-East Asia." He is
in charge of the IT system in the largest hospital in South-East
Asia: Siriagi Hospital and extremely talented in medical education
using computer.
Extinguished speakers followed, who are the major players in IT and
medical education in Japan: Dr. Suzuki, and Dr. Ohbu, and who is in
charge of the University Hospital Medical Information Network (UMIN):
Dr. Kiuchi, and who has more than 10-years experience in interna-
tional health in Cambodia, Bolivia and others: Dr. Miyoshi.
The Supercouse is thinking of some collaborative projects with the
Center, speakers, and participants to improve global health through
education.
Professor Fukuhara, Graduate School of Medicine and Public Health,
Kyoto University (who is also Head at the International Research Cen-
ter, The University of Tokyo) invited Akira to give a seminar on the
Supercourse for the graduate students at Kyoto University. They were
keenly interested in the Supercourse: its scope, concepts, and accom-
plishments.
