Launched in 1997, HIV InSite (http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu) is the pre-
mier international AIDS-related informational resource on the web. It
provides medical, prevention, and policy information and analysis to
an annual audience of nearly 4 million physicians, researchers, poli-
cymakers, and consumers from over 150 countries. The site receives
over 3 million page-views each month.
HIV InSite is a collaborative project of the San Francisco Veterans
Affairs Medical Center, the Positive Health Program at San Francisco
General Hospital and the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, affili-
ates of the AIDS Research Institute at the University of California
San Francisco.
Analytical, Research, and Writing Duties
The HIV InSite policy & prevention editorial associate will work un-
der the supervision of the policy & international editor and support
her in developing, implementing, and maintaining content. Responsi-
bilities will include:
* monitoring daily news stream to create the Daily NewsWatch feature
and track new resources for posting on the site
* updating Policy Analysis, Countries & Regions, and Prevention links
and New & Noteworthy sections
* compiling and maintaining related resource links for HIV InSite
Knowledge Base policy and prevention chapters
* creating and monitoring production timeline for HIV InSite Knowl-
edge Base policy and prevention chapters
* producing international and domestic special features
* assisting editor with fundraising, site promotion, research, and
other tasks as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Necessary to Perform Job
Necessary
* Bachelor's degree
* Minimum two years of recent, directly related work experience fol-
lowing degree completion
* Superior writing, editing, and research skills
* Familiarity with international HIV/AIDS policy and prevention is-
sues
* Skill in conducting literature searches and in using the Internet
as a research tool
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for working with high-level
researchers and government officials
Preferred
* Graduate degree in public policy or social science field
* Knowledge of HTML and/or XML
* Experience working in developing countries
* Fluency in second language
The position is classified as an assistant public administrative ana-
lyst, with an annual salary range between US$ 36,900 and US$ 60,900.
The editorial associate will be an employee of the University of
California San Francisco and will be based at HIV InSite's facilities
at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. UCSF is an af-
