A short term contract to Summarize Behavioural Sentinel Surveillance 
(BSS) findings for the South African National STI Initiative 

South African National STI Initiative

The National STI Initiative was set up to strengthen STI control at 
district level. It is a collaboration between the Reproductive Health 
Research Unit, the Health Systems Trust and provincial and national 
Departments of Health. One of its projects has been to conduct a 
baseline round of BSS, a comprehensive behavioural survey conducted 
in a number of target groups in 4 provinces of South Africa. This 
survey will be used as a baseline for future monitoring of behaviour 
change.

The National STI Initiative requires a short-term consultant with the 
following qualifications to undertake the work outlined below:

Qualifications
* Proven writing skills 
* Experience in preparing / editing health related material for pub-
  lication
* Knowledge of the South African health care system and policy issues
* Knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections/ HIV/ reproductive
  health 

Task
* Summarize the different descriptive BSS reports into a format suit-
  able for policy makers and health planners/ providers
* Incorporate policy and programme recommendations 
* Incorporate recommendations on key messages for development of IEC 
  materials for each target group
* Edit reports for publication and printing

Duration of contract: 10 weeks.
