Codeine Cough Mixture Abuse (3)

The danger of codeine's misuse as an "illegal" drug is a real one. 
Here in Hungary about 30 years ago we have directed already the Com-
petent Authorities attention toward this problem. In that time we had 
quite a number of different drugs, - partly OTC preparations,- which 
were most probably misused. Moreover, the use of codeine as an anal-
getic, which is a common practice in the States, according to my hum-
ble opinion is not a really good therapeutic intervention. It also 
could be a source of different problems. A more rigorous control (and 
self-control!) seems to be needed regarding codeine's use in our eve-
ry day's practice.
