RFI: Codeine Cough Mixture Abuse (4)
------------------------------------
I am being "Devil's Advocate" here, of course, but in withholding co-
deine to prevent abuse, there is the real risk of inadequate pain
control for those who need it. Believe me, spending the entire night
coughing and unable to sleep is *also* painful. But I agree with you
that there needs to be reasonable controls to guard against abuse.
Part of those controls are social justice -- at least in the US,
those who abuse cough syrups tend to be people with few other real
comforts like a job, a sense of belonging to a community, etc.
