NEW from The Communication Initiative
-------------------------------------

There are NEW FEATURES on The Communication Initiative web site
http://www.comminit.com

This Drum Beat introduces you to those new features and reviews some
of the other information and services. New information is placed on
the web site every day. For a summary review of the Mission and
Strategy of The Communication Initiative please see:
http://www.comminit.com/Mission/sld-2538.html

Most items in The Communication Initiative web site and magazines
have contact names, e-mail addresses and links to the full material.
This is to enable you to gather more information and to directly
share, debate and dialogue with people connected to initiatives of
interest to you.

1. Issue Specific Sites - NEW

Many people wish to directly access information and ideas specific to
their communication for development priority issues. We have re-
sponded to this interest. Go to the Home Page
http://www.comminit.com

View the Right Column. Click on the arrow under 'Issue Focus'. Pres-
ently there are 3 choices - Health, HIV/AIDS and Immunisation & Vac-
cines. When you access these "windows" all material will, by default,
relate to those themes - for example in the HIV/AIDS Window, all data
in Base Line, programme descriptions in Programmes and evaluation
summaries in Evaluations will relate to HIV/AIDS. The middle column
will change on a regular basis as new material is uploaded. You can
make more specific choices by clicking on the "Customise" button and
choosing additional keywords. Please access these Windows on a regu-
lar basis. Other Issue specific Windows will be added in the near fu-
ture.

There is now a section on the Home Page that supports you identifying
and viewing the most recent information relevant to your specific in-
terests. Go to http://www.comminit.com and click on 'Your personal
picks' at the top of the page. There will be instructions on how to
personalise. These will take you to
http://www.comminit.com/setkeys.cgi

On that page, simply make your selections. For example, if your in-
terests are gender and HIV/AIDS issues in East and Southern Africa
you would select those keywords. Scroll down, click on 'Update my
profile'. Then return to the Home Page either by the back button or
by the link provided on the page. 3 items relevant to your selection
