Non-sexual transmission of HIV overlooked in Africa, Asia (2)
-------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Colleagues,

It is no news that there are known non-sexual routes for transmitting
HIV infection. The mention of these in the BMJ was just stating what
is already an open secret. For example, we know that people acquire
HIV infection via the blood transfusion route and needle prick injuries.
HIV can also be acquired through barbing using unsterile clippers and
blades, pedicure and manicure while sharing unsterile implements. HIV
infection is also associated with drug addicts who share needles
while injecting themselves.

I am sure others modes of transmission not immediately obvious to me
exist.

Happy contribution.

Yours,
Dr. O.O. Ovadje, FMCA
