Monitoring and Evaluation of Population, Health and Nutrition Pro-
grams within a Decentralized System
5 - 22 August 2002
Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda

USAID's MEASURE Evaluation Project is pleased to announce the third
annual regional workshop. This three-week course will provide inten-
sive, hands-on training in the fundamentals of monitoring and evalua-
tion and in state-of-the-art practices in population, health and nu-
trition programs. District-level applications will be emphasized. The
course is targeted to English-speaking mid-level health and popula-
tion officers, program managers and other professionals involved with
the implementation of programs in Africa.
Intensive training covering the fundamentals of strong monitoring and
evaluation plans at the district and national levels will be pro-
vided, along with state-of-the-art M&E techniques in important the-
matic areas such as HIV/AIDS/STI, maternal health, reproductive
health, and child health and nutrition. Core elements of the course
include:
* Program design frameworks
* Indicator and data source selection
* Impact evaluation study design
* Health Management Information Systems
* Qualitative research methods
Participants will have the opportunity to apply newly acquired or
polished skills through their involvement in a group project and
field visit to a nearby district. MEASURE Evaluation staff will join
faculty from Makerere University to provide instruction.
The fee for the course is US$ 1,500 and living expenses are estimated
at US$ 2,000. These costs do not include airfare, visa fees, or other
expenses. A limited number of MEASURE Evaluation fellowships will be
awarded to applicants from USAID-assisted countries in the region.
