RFI: The Red Ribbon

Dear Colleagues,

May some one give me all the information on the red ribbon used in 
HIV/AIDS? When it was adopted, why, what is its significance, why do 
people wear it, and what is the significance of the colour red? I am 
convinced a lot of people in the world wear it without understanding 
it.

Would appreciate your help.
