Medical Research Grant for Thalassemia (IMPACT Children Foundation)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Deadline: 29 April 2002
Thalassemia is a genetic disease affecting hemoglobin formation that appears
most often in children of Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, South Asian, and
African descent. In many cases, children with thalassemia must undergo regu-
lar blood transfusions. The Improving Awareness and Cure for Thalassemia in
Children Foundation (IMPACT Children) is currently inviting proposals in two
key areas - the development of oral chelators for iron removal, and fetal
hemoglobin induction. Sanjay Dhar, president of IMPACT Children, says the
foundation will fund a total of two proposals this year, preferably one in
each topic. Dhar also stresses that projects must be clinical in nature.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. degree. Any nationality.
Funds:
Two grants of US$30,000 each will be awarded this year. Grants are for 1
year of support.

29 April 2002.
