Announcing Filaria Journal (3)
------------------------------
Dear Richard,
Thank you for your question. In reply: it currently costs nothing to
publish in Filaria Journal.
We believe the flow of information is one of the most important fac-
tors for improving health and sustainable development in developing
countries - in the case of Filaria Journal we believe in not only the
provision of open access peer-reviewed journal literature but also
the provision of a mechanism that will enable financially unrestric-
tive publishing.
Open-access online journals cost much less to produce than print
journals or toll-access online journals (and in the case of Filaria
Journal have many other advantages - one such is that the authors of
the manuscript retain the copyright). However, as I'm sure you will
appreciate we still have running costs for the Journal, that said, we
hope to put into place various funding mechanisms that will enable us
to keep the cost of publishing a manuscript at it's current rate -
free.
I have recently returned from the Global Alliance for the Elimination
of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) meeting in New Delhi were the announce-
ment of the Journal was received with enormous enthusiasm, particu-
larly from LF Programme Managers who envisaged Filaria Journal becom-
ing a unique and valuable tool in the fight against lymphatic filari-
asis. This coupled to the fact that the Journal covers other filarial
infections which have been targeted for elimination means that we now
have a tool to disseminate in an unrestricted manner, high-quality
peer-reviewed literature which can only have a positive impact on
these global elimination programmes.
If you have any further questions or suggestions about Filaria Jour-
nal, or the Lymphatic Filariasis Support Centre, please do contact
me. (You may also wish to visit our sister journal - Malaria Journal
