The EVENT 2002 Guest Panellists line up includes:
Dr. ISMAIL SERAGELDIN
Dr. Serageldin is Director-General of The Library of Alexandria,
Egypt. He is also the co-chair of the Youth Employment Summit 2002,
Special Advisor to The World Bank; Distinguished Visiting Professor,
American University in Cairo (AUC); and Distinguished University Pro-
fessor, Wageningen University, the Netherlands.
Dr. PHILIP EMEAGWALI
Last year, Dr. Emeagwali was called "A Father of the Internet" by
CNN, voted "Africa's best scientist" by a Pan-African broadcast or-
ganization, and cited as one of the most important people of 20th
century America.
JODY WILLIAMS
Jody Williams, Ambassador, International Campaign to Ban Landmines
(ICBL) From 1991 to 1997, also served as Coordinator of the ICBL. In
December 1997, the ICBL and Williams were awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize.
Dr. SUGATA MITRA
Dr. Sugata Mitra, head of the Centre for Research in Cognitive Sys-
tems (CRCS), NIIT, is the brain behind the world famous, experiments
also known as the "Hole-In-The-Wall" experiments.
JAMES MOODY
Mr. Moody is co-chair and Australian representative of the 40 strong
youth advisory council to the UN Environment Program (UNEP). He is
also a member of the Science and Technology delegation to the UN
World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg later this
year. James Moody has a great deal of experience in ICT for develop-
ment, ranging from his international work to grass roots experience
in researching the use of the Internet in schools in Vietnam.
PATTRICE LE-MUIRE JONES
Pattrice Le-Muire Jones coordinates the Global Hunger Alliance, which
is an international coalition of environmental, social justice, agri-
culture reform, and animal liberation organizations dedicated to ef-
fective, equitable, ethical, and environmentally sustainable solu-
tions to hunger and malnutrition.
Dr. (Ms) USA DUONGSAA
Dr. Duongsaa is co-coordinator of the AIDS Education Programme at the
Faculty of Education, Chiangmai University, and currently is facili-
tating the Project for Participatory Learning from Local Responses to
HIV/AIDS in Thailand, which is being implemented in the north and
northeast of Thailand.
LINDA WOLF
Linda is the co-founder and director of the Daughters Sisters Pro-
ject (http://www.daughters-sisters.org) Linda Wolf makes little dis-
tinction between her life as a mother, activist, feminist, photogra-
pher, social historian, humanitarian, author or businesswoman. What
unites these various parts is a commitment through her work and per-
sonal life to advancing human understanding, compassion, equality,
and reverence for life.
SERISH SHABAN
Sehrish Shaban is an 18-year-old Pakistani youth landmine activist.
She is the special youth representative for the Pakistani Campaign to
Ban Landmines in the Sindh Region.
Dr. (Ms) FAUSTINA PEREIRA
Dr. Pereira is a Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, spe-
cialising in the field of Human Rights, constitutional and family
law, with a particular focus on gender issues.
JACKIE HANSEN
Jackie Hansen is the Programme Assistant, International Campaign to
Ban Landmines. She campaigned on human rights and environmental is-
sues withgroups such as Amnesty International before focusing on
landmines.
ANNE PHLIPOTT
Ms Philpott is an experienced health and social welfare professional
with wide knowledge of working as a health and development practitio-
ner, management of multi-country programmes and as a technical advi-
sor. She has developed and managed HIV/AIDS programmes in Africa and
Asia.
