RFI: Donors/NGOs Working in Prisons
-----------------------------------
Greetings from Madagascar!
Does anyone have information on donors who are specifically concerned
with health issues in prisons?
When living in Cambodia, I worked with a local NGO that was involved
in prison health care. Funding was an ongoing nightmare because pris-
oner health is not usually considered a priority where MCH issues
loom large. This NGO approached prison health care as a human rights
issue and was able to get limited funding from a few human rights-
related donors, but it was (and continues to be) a continual struggle
to stay afloat.
I welcome any and all information on potential donors (human rights,
prison health, etc.) and/or NGOs that have prison health programs
from which I could learn. I am somewhat familiar with Prison Fellow-
ship, a faith-based organization that sends medical teams to overseas
prisons.
Thank you for any information you may have.
Regards,
