Low-Tech Strategies for Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health
----------------------------------------------------------------
Training of Trainers
3-15 November 2002
Johannesburg, South Africa
We are pleased to offer Training of Trainers: Low-Tech Strategies for
Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health. This is a 12-day intensive
course for master trainers within health education programmes. The
course addresses the challenges they face in preparing local trainers
and educators for health promotion in resource-constrained communi-
ties. Human sexuality, behaviour change communication and the nuts
and bolts of training are central themes in this course. Participants
explore culture-based methodologies for communicating health messages
and are supported in their application of these methodologies in sex-
ual and reproductive health education. The course culminates in par-
ticipants? development and presentation of low-tech teaching aids
from common, every-day materials.
Course Objectives
This 12-day course prepares participants to:
* Strengthen training skills of master trainers
* Create appropriate teaching aids for training and SRH education at
the community level
* Deliver technical information using a culturally sensitive approach
that increases local access to material
Who should attend?
This course is designed for health promoters in resource-constrained
environments:
* Trainers of Trainers
* Trainers of Educators
* Supervisors of SRH Promoters
What should participants expect?
This course involves 60 hours of classroom contact focused on in-
struction, analysis and creation of teaching aids. Another 30 hours
is devoted to translating creative ideas into actual teaching aids
and field-testing those tools within the group. The course is con-
ducted in a low-tech setting, requiring participants to be intuitive,
creative and resourceful. Participants can expect to be challenged in
their creativity and their perspectives on the education/learning
process.
Margaret Sanger Centre International South Africa (MSCISA) provides
