HIV/AIDS through Unsafe Medical Care (6)

Dear Colleagues,

I am surprised that somebody considers this subject new and unat-
tended to. Generally hospital acquired infection is a known subject
and this includes diseases such as hepatitis and HIV-AIDS. In 1996, I
presented a paper at the World Congress of Military Medicine (ICMM)
in Beijing, China on the need for indemnity for health workers, doc-
tors, nurses and laboratory workers who may acquire HIV and Hepatitis
while working on patients with these diseases. This is because, doc-
tors particularly surgeons are often laid off work when discovered to
have HIV infection in some countries such as the USA. This subject is
certainly not new but nobody wants to take it serious because hospi-
tal workers are not involved in policy making. They will therefore
rely on some form of advocacy for policy makers to take this subject
seriously. Indeed, WHO has a lot of publication on this, taking it
from the angle of needle prick injuries.
