Peace Message from Cooperation Seminar
--------------------------------------
From researchers of Cagliari and Sassari Universities, and delegates
of 24 developing countries an appeal about the solidarity and the
brotherhood among peoples.
The second international seminar on Collaboration between Sardinian
and developing countries universities held in Cagliari from 11 to 14
October 2002 with the participation of 120 basic, medical and social
scientists from Sardinia emphasized:
* The role of science and technology in supporting the peace process
in order to work together for human development.
* Bilateral and multilateral cooperation activities guarantee devel-
opment in health, human rights, environment, agriculture and educa-
tion. Concerted efforts are needed to convince Governments of all
countries to work together for the common goal of peace. Without such
conditions the problems will not be solved. If peace is not attained,
hardship, economic difficulties and loss of life will persist and
this will deter the ability of students, researchers and scientists
from both developed and developing countries to interact to their mu-
tual benefit. The success of cooperation depends on peace, the mobil-
ity of students, teachers, and researchers.
* We need mobility in order to achieve peace but peace is one of the
essential conditions to ensure exchange and knowledge diffusion in
all countries. Therefore, we need the support of all institutions,
personnel and civil society to spread science and technology in order
to build together peace and guarantee human rights. Human rights and
social equality are intrinsic parts of peace.
Teachers and researchers of Sardinian Universities took part in draw-
ing up of the peace document together with representatives of the
Universities from Argentina, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia,
Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya,
Morocco, Mozambique, Pakistan, Peru, Tanzania, Tunisia, Venezuela,
Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
