RFI: Community Participation in a Rural Health and Nutrition Program (2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear colleague,

I quite agree with you that community participation could be very
difficult than it is anticipated; due to poverty the developing coun-
tries are experiencing this hard times. Even volunteering among the
rural people is decreasing; they want rewards. Community leaders who
are almost 98% often times makes things difficult, because they are
the opinion leaders and hold most lands and properties; but don't get
discouraged, at this time communication matters, talk to the influen-
cials, involve women leaders, and work through women community based
associations. With my organization experienced women are now pleading
for involvement in community health development programs, because
they feel men's attitude is: the winner takes it all. Also involve
the local Government; they can donate an existing facility which we
recently benefited from for our HIV/AIDS prevention program for the
Youth out of school.

Well I wish you all the best. If you buy a land and put up a simple
structure for this project, that may be it. To me community partici-
pation should still be studied it works for some activities and does-
n't work for some.

Best Regards,
